Irish Commemorative Varieties Page 110

Here are some examples of varieties found in Irish Commemorative Stamps. For a larger example click on the stamp (or sometimes the captions). The following abbreviations are used in the descriptions. "Scott" or "Sc" for " The Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue", "MW" for The MacDonnell Whyte Stamps of Ireland Specialized Catalogue", and "Hib" for "The Hibernian Specialised Catalog"

1968 Countess Markievicz Birth Centenary

Scott 246, MW C128a, Stroke on nose, R14/6Scott 247, Hib C129b, Neck flaw, R11/3, No graphic available
Scott 246, MW C128b, Eye flaw, R20/2Scott 247, Hib C129c,Spot flaw,R1/3, No graphic available
Scott 246, Unlisted, Faint diagonal line, see note belowScott 247, Hib C129d, Vertical blue line to left of hair, R3/4
Scott 246, Unlisted, white caret to left of head, unknown positionScott 247, Hib C129e, Line flaw, R12/4, No graphic available

The unlisted, "Faint diagonal line" is a faint line that (in this example) runs from R19/1 through 20/2. It may clip the bottom left corner of R18/1 and most likely continues through R19/2 and 20/3. On R19/1 it runs through the "EIRE" and through the Countess' face. In R20/2 it runs through her hair. The graphic online for this is a very large file (over 300kb) so much of the detail could be retained. You may need to zoom in to get the detail. The line doesn't run through the margins. I don't know what the cause is. Any ideas?
Another distinguishing flaw on R20/2 besides the eye flaw (and the faint line)is that there is a white "accent" on the last "E" of "EIRE"
I suspect the "caret" variety is caused by some foreign material on the plate and therefore is probably not constant. I would like to hear from anyone else who has seen it.
1968 James Connolly Birth Centenary

Scott 248-9, MW C130-31a, Flaw on right shoulder, R3/4, no graphic available
Scott 248-9, MW C130-31b, Extra button, R5/1
Scott 249, MW C131c, Retouch left of "1/", R1/9, No graphic available
Scott 248-9, Hib C130-31b, Retouch right knee, R5/2, No graphic available
Scott 248-9, Unlisted, Spot on sleeve, Unknown position

1969 Dail Eireann

Scott 268-9, MW C134-5a, Seat flaw, R7/4 (see note)
Scott 268-9, Hib C134-5a, White dot below handrail, R2/6
Scott 268-9, Hib C134-5c, Comma before "1" in "1919", R7/4 (see note)
Scott 268-9, Unlisted, Dark line under "2" of "21", Unknown position
Scott 268-9, Unlisted, small dark spot above value tablet, R2/7

There is disagreement between the MW and Hib catalogs as to the position of two varieties. The MW catalog places the "Seat flaw" in R7/4 while the Hib. places it at R7/2 with the "comma" flaw at R7/4. I don't know which is correct since I don't have these in positional pieces. Any one with positional copies?
